In war-torn Japan, a young orphan boy named Koutarou is forced to steal from simple villagers to survive with his loyal dog, Tobimaru. However, their lives are disrupted by the arrival of Chinese assassins. Koutarou must now flee, without knowing why he has become the target of these assassins.
